IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, June 19, IRNA - Dubbing recent wave of killings as terror
acts, Pakistan on Saturday decided to strengthen its network of
intelligence agencies to effectively combat the menace.
"I chaired a meeting on law and order and we felt that the working
agencies like CID and Special Branch be made more effective," Prime
Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali told journalists here at the
Parliament House.
A well-conceived monitoring by the agencies, he was of the view,
was vital to preempt any untoward incident.
To a question, he said that military courts were not being
established. However, he added that the anti-terrorist courts would be
made more effective.
Jamali also said that the federating units had been directed to
present their list of demands by July 1 so that increased allocations
could be incorporated in the budget.
It was decided that Punjab, which had better security system,
would spare security personnel for Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP),
Sindh and Balochistan and impart training to their law-enforcement
agencies, he added.
In response to a question, he said that he was kept abreast of
the ongoing operation in tribal areas.
He said the strategy to ensure safety to the tri-border junction
oining Balochistan, NWFP and Punjab) would be revamped shortly. There
have been attacks on the gas pipelines at the junction in a year or
so.
About changes in Hadood Ordinance, Prime Minister Jamali said
that no law would be made repugnant to the Holy Quran and Sunnah.
