1st Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade

The mission of the 1st Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade, based at Fort Shafter on the island of Oahu, Hawaii is to provide professional, high quality, dedicated, and responsive training support to the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Hawaii National Guard to sustain or improve its unit readiness in the areas of operational capability, logistics, and administration. The Battalion would, on order, provide TAM evaluation teams to assist other US Army Pacific (USARPAC) reserve component units, reinforcement to the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team staff in the execution of Military Support to Civil Authorities (MSCA) missions, and training support to other units as directed by Commander, 196th Infantry Brigade.

The 1st Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade was activated between 1998 and 1999 as part of the activation of the 196th Infantry Brigade as a numbered training support brigade. The 1st Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade became the Training Support Battalion (TSB) for the state of Hawaii.
