1st Field Artillery Detachment

The mission of the 1st Field Artillery Detachment is to maintain an airborne target acquisition detachment that is manned, equipped, and trained for rapid deployment by air, sea, or land to theaters of operation anywhere in the world to acquire and process targets in support of combat operations. On order, the unit redeploys, recovers, and reestablishes garrison operations.

The 1st Field Artillery Detachment was constituted and activated on July 16, 1987 in the Regular Army as the 1st Field Artillery Detachment at Fort Bragg, NC.

In the Fall of 1990 the detachment was ordered to Southwest Asia in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm where the unit provided timely and accurate counterfire data. 1st FAD participated in both the Defense of Saudi Arabia and Liberation and Defense of Kuwait campaigns.
