Air Force officials today announced changes in the service's force
structure affecting the operating locations of people, aircraft
and organizations across the United States.
The actions listed in the announcement will enable the Air
Force to meet budget realities and result in a more efficient, and
therefore more ready and capable force. Many bases will have an
increased endstrength for a much improved tooth-to-tail ratio for
expeditionary operations and aircraft maintenance.
Pacific Air Forces base in Alaska, Hawaii and Guam are included
in the announcement, which adds 196 military authorizations and 62
civilian authorizations. Specific actions include:
ALASKA
Clear AS - A military to civilian conversion
in firefighting results in a decrease of 11 military and increase
of 11 civilian authorizations. The 13th Space Warning Squadron
loses two military authorizations as a result of a transfer to the
Canadian Forces for crew support. Total impact is a reduction of
13 military and a gain of 11 civilian authorizations.
Eielson AFB - The 354th Fighter Wing gains 105 military
authorizations for F-16 and A-10 maintenance manpower. The wing
also gains 24 military and two civilian authorizations in support
of the Expeditionary Aerospace Force concept. The 354th Medical
Group loses 20 military and gains five civilian authorizations as
a result of AF Medical Service Optimization. Other minor
realignments result in an increase of two civilian authorizations.
Total impact is an increase of 109 military and nine civilian
authorizations.
Elmendorf AFB - The 3rd Wing gains 97 military
authorizations for F-15 maintenance manpower. The wing also gains
17 military and four civilian authorizations in support of the EAF
concept. The 3rd Medical Group loses 41 military and gains one
civilian authorization as a result of AF Medical Service
Optimization which is a reduction in health-care assets at the
direction of the Department of Defense. The 962nd
Airborne Air Control Squadron gains 24 military authorizations
for an additional Airborne Warning and Control System flight crew.
The 381st Intelligence Squadron gains seven military
authorizations due to a mission adjustment. Other minor
realignments result in an increase of six military and five
civilian authorizations. Total impact is an increase of 110
military and ten civilian authorizations.
GUAM
Andersen AFB - The 36th Maintenance Squadron gains ten
military authorizations in support of the Conventional Air Launch
Cruise Missile program. The 36th Medical Group loses 11 military
and five civilian authorizations as a result of AF Medical Service
Optimization. The 36th Logistics Group gains six civilian
authorizations for Quality Assurance Evaluator support of an A-76
contract. The 36th Civil Engineer Squadron gains four military
authorizations to provide War Reserve Material (WRM) support.
Other minor realignments result in an increase of six military and
a decrease of one civilian authorization. Total impact is an
increase of nine military authorizations.
HAWAII
Hickam AFB - The 15th Medical Group loses nine military
and gains one civilian authorization as a result of AF Medical
Service Optimization. The 15th Air Base Wing gains 27 military and
four civilian authorizations in support of the EAF concept. A
military to civilian conversion results in a decrease of
six military and an increase of six civilian authorizations. The
PACAF Privatization Squadron gains one military and six civilian
authorizations to oversee command privatization efforts of
military family housing and utilities. The 15th Logistics Support
Division gains three military and seven civilian authorizations as
part of a maintenance support adjustment. Other minor realignments
result in an increase of four military and eight civilian
authorizations. Total impact is an increase of 20 military and 32
civilian authorizations.
Wheeler AAF - The 324th Intelligence Squadron loses 20
military authorizations due to the consolidation of airborne
linguists at Offutt AFB and loses 19 military authorizations due
to a mission adjustment. Total impact is a decrease of 39 military
authorizations.
