IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, Jan 13 IRNA -- The biggest military movement of US forces since World War II began this week with some 100,000 fresh troops expected to take over occupation duties in Iraq, reports said Tuesday. "In what is being called the largest military movement since World War II, the United States has started launching the lead units for the first complete turnover of forces in Iraq," the European edition Stars and Stripes said. The military daily cited Marine Captain David Romley, a Pentagon spokesman as saying that the "transition of forces has started," adding that the mission of this second group of occupation forces has been dubbed "Operation Iraqi Freedom 2." "Leading the effort are hundreds of Germany-based 21st Theater Support Command logisticians who will help pave the way for more than 100,000 fresh troops who are slated to take over occupation duties in Iraq over the next five months," the paper said. The guard-changing comes as Washington rushes to set up an Iraqi security force to be in place by June for a transfer of soverignty to Iraqis. 2052/212 End
