V CORPS' 1ST INFANTRY DIVISION PRESENTS 24 NEW POLICE CARS TO IRAQ PROVINCE
1st Infantry Division release
Release Date: 6/2/2004
FORWARD OPERATING BASE DANGER, Tikrit, Iraq - Iraqi police officers in Salah Ad Din province received a gift of 24 new police cars courtesy of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of V Corps' 1st Infantry Division. The cars were presented in a ceremony at Forward Operating Base Orion in Balad, Iraq May 20.
The cars went to police officers in several cities, including Tikrit, Balad and Samarra, all part of the Salah Ad Din provincial district. "This is a great day for the 1st Infantry Division and the Iraqi police," said Col. Randall Dragon, the 2nd BCT commander. Dragon, who presented the cars to Brig. Gen. Mazher Taha Ahmad, chief of police for the province, said he hoped the new vehicles would help Iraqi police officers be more efficient.
"One of the biggest challenges for a new police force is transportation," Dragon said. "The police force here is far short of having enough vehicles. Hopefully this will be a step in the right direction." The police cars were bought from a local contractor.
