Fresh equity will be ploughed into the Indo-Russian joint venture BrahMos Aerospace to maintain the edge in developing supersonic missiles, BrahMos missiles, Company CEO and Managing Director A Sivathanu Pillai has said.
Currently India and Russia equally share the 100 million US Dollars equity, said Pillai while talking to newspersons in Srirangapatnam, a city of Karnataka state, UNI report said here.
He said, "Only these two countries had the technology to develop BrahMos, which can now travel at over 3,500 kmph. To maintain the edge over other countries before they could match our technology, we are working on adding new equity and developing the futuristic version of the missile."
He said the amount to be infused had been decided.
"The future versions will be more faster. However, nothing has been decided on increasing the existing range of 290 km", he added.
Pillai said the army version of BrahMos would be inducted next year, while the Air Force version to be fitted to Sukhoi MKI fighters would be inducted during 2009.
He said the testing stage of army version of BrahMos was in the final stage.
Apart from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Chief of Army staff General J J Singh had recently witnessed the launch of BrahMos operated by armymen.
"They are satisfied with it and they are now raising a `Thrust Sub Group' for BrahMos in the army," he informed.
