NATO Parliamentary Assembly convenes with representative from Iran

Rome, Italy, July 4, IRNA -- Special Group for the Mediterranean and the Middle East of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's Parliamentary Assembly convened on Monday with representative from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Representatives from 25 countries will discuss the latest political and security issues in Mediterranean, Middle East and Persian Gulf during the two-day event.
This the first time that representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran is attending the NATO meeting.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Euro-American Affairs Ali Ahani is scheduled to deliver a speech during the event.
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is the inter-parliamentary organization of legislators from the member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance as well as 14 associate members.
The Assembly provides a critical forum for international parliamentary dialogue on an array of security, political and economic matters.
Its principal objective is to foster mutual understanding among Alliance parliamentarians of the key security challenges facing the transatlantic partnership.
