Pakistan rejects Indian views on court release order of militant

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, June 3, IRNA -- Pakistan Tuesday rejected as misplaced comments from India over the release of leader of a banned group, which was blamed for attacks in Mumbai.

The Lahore High Court ordered the release of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, chief of Jamaat-ud-Daawa.

Responding to the statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on the release of Hafiz Saeed, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman said that the views expressed therein are misplaced. It is best not to comment on a Court decision.

“The Government of Pakistan is well aware of its obligations under national and international laws,” the spokesman said in a statement.

He said Pakistan has demonstrated full sincerity and commitment vis-à-vis inquiry and ongoing investigations concerning the Mumbai attacks.

“Indian authorities have undertaken to provide English translation of the information material they handed over to Pakistan on 20 May”.

He said that Polemics and unfounded insinuations cannot advance the cause of justice in civilized societies. “Legal processes cannot and must not be interfered with,” the spokesman said.
