US advisory on threat of terrorism faced by India unwarranted
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
New Delhi, June 4, IRNA – Calling India safer than many other countries, Chidambaram on Thursday said that the advisory by the US on the threat of terrorism faced by India is unwarranted.
Clearly upset about US government issuing travel advisory cautioning its citizens in India, Home Minister, P Chidambaram, while talking to reporters here said that India is safer than many other countries and it will try to persuade the United States to withdraw its advisory.
The Home Minister was responding to US advisory earlier to its citizens residing in or traveling to India that there is a high threat from terrorism.
"India is a completely safe country. India is a safe place, it is safer than any other country in the world. Thousands of tourists come to India and we look forward to welcome them", he told reporters.
Chidambaram said the MEA will be asked to speak to the US to persuade them to withdraw the advisory, if at all it was issued.
As reported, the US advisory posted on American embassy website, urged citizens to always practice good security including maintaining a heightened situational awareness and a low profile. The US has asked its citizens to be vigilant at all times and monitor local news reports and vary their routes and times in carrying out daily activities.
