  • CHINA-NOKOR BORDER VOA 15 Sept 2003-- China says it is deploying army troops along the North Korean border, but is denying reports of a major build-up
  • North Korean Standoff VOA 15 Sept 2003-- Six-way talks aimed at defusing the threat of a nuclear North Korea made little progress last month. The United States and regional powers South Korea, China, Japan, and Russia sat down with officials of the Communist regime of Kim Jong Il to call on North Korea to stop its apparent development of nuclear bombs. North Korean negotiators demanded that the U-S sign a non-aggression pact before talks could proceed. The U-S said there is only one precondition to negotiations: that North Korea must end its nuclear bomb-making program. North Korea refused. This month, Kim Jong Il held a massive military parade to mark the regime's birthday. Thousands of goose-stepping troops paraded by, but missing were any of the missiles that Kim has been saying he would use to rain fire on his enemies.
  • Bush Says U.S. To Provide KEDO Administrative Expenses Washington File 15 Sept 2003-- President Bush informed the Secretary of State that he will provide up to $3.72 million to assist the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) -- but for administrative expenses only.
