Russian news media here Sunday reported that Iran and Russia reached agreement in principle on Moscow's enrichment proposal.

According to the Russian Interfax News Agency, vice president and head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA), Gholamreza Aqazadeh, said that during the two-day talks with the Head of Russia's Atomic Energy Organization Sergei Kiriyenko in Tehran and Bushehr, eventually agreement in principle was reached on the uranium enrichment plan proposed by Russia.

Meanwhile, Aqazadeh expressed satisfaction with the trend of the talks.

Quoting Aqazadeh, Interfax added, "Russia's proposed enrichment plan was discussed in detail and satisfactory results were achieved.

"Aqazadeh hoped for coming up with a solution for Iran's nuclear issue before the scheduled IAEA Board of Governors meeting on March 6, 2006."
The Russian Itar-Tass News Agency reported that for his part, Kiriyenko told reporters, after inspecting the Bushehr Nuclear Power Station, that most of the financial and technical issues related to the joint enrichment center to be established on Russian territory have been solved.

Assessing his two-day talks with the Iranian officials, he expressed his satisfaction over the trend of discussions, including that of establishment of a joint uranium enrichment center in Russia.

Though the talks did not proceed easily, there is concern over removing the obstacles.

Two groups of experts are currently involved in relevant talks in Tehran, one of which focus on Russia's proposal for a joint enrichment center in its territory.

Kiriyenko added that the negotiations on nuclear cooperation between the two countries will continue in Moscow in the coming days.

The steps required to be taken by both sides in the shortest time to implement the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant were also specified.
