Jannati: Guardian Council carefully monitoring elections

Tehran, June 12, IRNA -- Secretary of the Guardian Council Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati cast his vote in the 10th Presidential Elections and Experts Assembly by-elections in mobile ballot box no. 1416 on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, he said that the Guardian Council is duty-bound to guarantee the soundness of the elections and seriously deal with any fraud or vote-rigging.
The Iranian people in the past 30 years have proved that they listen to the advice of their Supreme Leader and are duty-bound to cast their votes in various occasions, he said.
People's massive turnout in the country's elections have brought dignity and honor to the Iranian nation, he said, adding that it is predicted that the huge turnout in the current presidential elections will be a new record.
It is among the legal and religious responsibilities of the Guardian Council to prevent vote rigging or fraud and carefully examine and monitor the soundness of elections, Ayatollah Jannati said.
Polling began nationwide at 08:00 hours local time (0330 GMT) Friday to elect the country's next president.
Four candidates, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mir-Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and Mohsen Rezaie, are competing in the elections.
