Amano stresses 'int'l diplomacy' key to resolving Iran nuclear issue

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Berlin, Oct 8, IRNA -- Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano here on Friday emphasized 'international diplomacy' was key to resolving the ongoing impasse over Iran's nuclear program.

Addressing the Berlin-based German Council on Foreign Relations, Amano made clear that 'international diplomacy and dialogue' were crucial for ultimately settling the Iranian nuclear row.

Meanwhile, Amano met earlier in the day with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, dwelling on the latest developments in the Iranian nuclear case.

Westerwelle pointed to 'new signals' from Tehran on its readiness for talks with western powers.

Iran has repeatedly expressed its wilingness for resuming negotiations on its nuclear program.

Tehran has time and again stressed its nuclear issue should 'not be politicized,' referring to efforts by a handful of western countries led by the US which have tried to stir up a political campaign on the matter.
