Tehran, IRNA -- The spokesperson for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) says any inspection of the nuclear sites by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be possible if there is an agreement on the framework of cooperation between the Agency and Tehran.
Behrouz Kamalvandi made the remarks during an interview on Wednesday when asked about the presence of IAEA inspectors in the country, as well as conditions and details of Iran's cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog.
He said that in line with the scheduled operation of the Bushehr nuclear power plant and the need to ensure a timely electricity supply to the national grid, it has been agreed that IAEA inspectors will supervise the plant's fuel replacement.
Kamalvandi added, "It is clear that any inspections will take place only after Iran and the IAEA reach an agreement on the framework of cooperation arrangements and after the approval of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), in accordance with the recent parliamentary legislation."
Following two rounds of talks between Iran and the IAEA in Tehran and Vienna, the agency's inspectors have returned to Iran, with the consent of the SNSC, to oversee technical operations at the Bushehr plant.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, after a meeting with the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, explained that the presence of IAEA inspectors was necessary once the decision to replace fuel at the Bushehr plant had been made.
Araghchi clarified that no text had been finalized or approved regarding cooperation with the IAEA, saying any cooperation is subject to the decision of the Supreme National Security Council.
