Iraq Demands US Explain Raid that Killed PM's Relative

Iraq is demanding an explanation from the U.S. military about the death of a relative of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Authorities Sunday said the relative was shot dead Friday in a raid by U.S. soldiers in Hindiya, east of the holy city of Karbala.
Local leaders said the raid violated an agreement that transferred responsibility for Karbala's security from U.S. to Iraqi forces last year.
The U.S. is investigating the incident, which comes as Washington is trying to negotiate a long-term security agreement with Iraq. That deal would permit U.S. forces to stay in Iraq beyond December 31, when their United Nations mandate expires. Concerns about Iraqi sovereignty have slowed the talks.
In central Iraq today, police said a car bomb killed at least seven policemen and wounded two others in the north-central town of Dhuluiya.
Iraqi police also said the intelligence chief of the southern port city of Basra was killed Saturday in a drive-by shooting in eastern Baghdad. The official, Brigadier General Jabar Musaid, was killed while visiting relatives in a neighborhood controlled by Shi'ite militias.
Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
