Iran reiterates commitment to support new Iraqi government

Tehran, Sept 9, IRNA -- Spokeswoman for Foreign Ministry Marzieh Afkham said on Tuesday that Iran recommenced its commitment to support government of new Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Ebadi voicing readiness to further promote cordial bilateral relations between Tehran and Baghdad.
Afkham also congratulated al-Ebadi on his appointment as Iraqi prime minister.
Iraq's parliament officially named al-Abadi the country's new prime minister late Monday and approved most of the candidates put forward for his Cabinet.
Expressing satisfaction over completion of Iraqs political process based on the countrys constitution, Afkham hoped that the government in Baghdad would overcome its security challenges in the least possible time through national reconciliation.
She also hoped that the government of Prime Minister al-Ebadi would be able to implement its programs for all-out progress of the country and for providing peace and security as well as social welfare for the Iraqi people.
Al-Ebadis government is the fifth government of Iraq in the post-Saddam Hussein era.
The first Iraqi government was formed in 2004 by Ayad Allawi after the fall of Saddam Husseins dictatorship in January 2003.
The countrys second government was formed in 2005 by Ibrahim Al-Jaafari while Nuri Al-Maliki served as the Iraqi prime minister twice in 2006 and 2010 respectively.
