IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad,Dec 16,IRNA -- A bomb blast near a procession of Shia Muslims injured several people in the Pakistani northwestern city of Peshawar on Thursday, witnesses and police said.

Hospital sources said that 9 people were shifted to the city's main hospital.

The blast took place at the busy 'Chowk Yadgar' of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province, as the procession of Shiites was passing through the area.

Police said that most of the injured are women and children.
An official said that unidentified men threw hand grenade at the procession.

The blast took place despite police claim of tight security for the Muharram processions in the city.

No group claimed responsibility for the blast.

Taliban militants in the past claimed responsibility of attacks on Shia Muslims.

On Wednesday, three Shia Muslims, including father and his son, were shot dead in the southwestern city of Quetta. The banned Taliban-linked 'Lashkar-e-Jhangvi' group claimed responsibility for the attack.
