Russia asks NATO to explain its plans to mount military presence in Eastern Europe, expects detailed answer - Lavrov

3 April 2014, 11:28 -- Russia is waiting for NATO explanations about the consistency of its mounting activity in East European countries with Russia-NATO legal documents, the Voice of Russia correspondent Kira Kalinina reports.'We have posed these questions to the North Atlantic Alliance. We are expecting not just any answer but an answer fully respectful of the rules we have coordinated,' Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a press conference after negotiations with his Kazakh counterpart Yerlan Idrisov.

'We are confident that all regions without exception should partake in the reform and enjoy an equal vote in order to make this constitutional reform not something cosmetic but truly comprehensive, which is necessary for normalization in Ukraine and settlement of the domestic crisis,' Lavrov stated.

Russia, Kazakhstan believe extremist activity in Ukraine must be stopped - Lavrov

Russia and Kazakhstan support the need of constitutional reforms in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a joint press conference with Kazakhstan's foreign minister on Thursday in Moscow, the Voice of Russia correspondent Kira Kalinina reports.

'Of course we discussed the developing situation in Ukraine. We have similar approaches that the activity by extremists needs to be stopped, help is needed in normalizing the situation in Ukraine, and we support holding an overall constitutional reform taking into account all of the regions,' Lavrov said.

We, along with our Kazakh friends, hope that objective and impartial activity by the OSCE's monitoring mission will add to removing the Ukrainian crisis, help in the observance of the rights and freedom of all residents of the country, including ethnic and language minorities,' he said.

Russia-Kazakhstan treaty on good neighborly relations to take effect soon - Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov hopes that Russian-Kazakh treaty on good neighborly and allied relations in the 21st century will take effect soon, the Voice of Russia correspondent Kira Kalinina reports. The Russian foreign minister has made a statement in the Russian capital on Thursday, opening talks with visiting Kazakh counterpart Yerlan Idrisov.

'Our relations keep on broadening, the presidents of the two countries met six times, and meetings at the level of foreign ministers are quite intensive,' Lavrov said, recalling that leaders of the two countries Vladimir Putin and Nursultan Nazarbayev had talks in Moscow on March 5 on Eurasian integration.

'We would like to confirm our firm intention to promote all agreements on the Customs Union (Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus), creation of a Eurasian Cconomic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), combining this with interaction of our countries in the United Nations Organization and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and all structures in which we participate,' the Russian top diplomat added.

'We have submitted the bilateral treaty on good neighborly and allied relations in the 21st century for ratification to the Russian president. I hope that our countries will finalize all procedures, and the document will come into force,' the Russian minister stated. 'I am confident that talks will be useful to advance tasks set by the presidents,' Lavrov added.

For his part, Idrisov noted that the ministers met on Thursday to sum up results of work for the previous year. In his words, all events were fulfilled. "We will remember the previous year for sustainable development of bilateral relations in political, trade and economic spheres," the Kazakh foreign minister said, adding that 'the signing of the bilateral treaty on good neighborly and allied relations in the 21st century is a new stage in relations that will determine dialogue for the future.'
