Taipei, Jan. 16 (CNA) Opposition Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Ma Ying-jeou told a group of foreign guests Monday that his party will put forward a "reasonable" military weapons purchase bill when the legislature reconvenes for a new session in February.
Meeting with a group of Democratic Party visitors from the United States, Ma, who is also mayor of Taipei, said the KMT will soon publish a comprehensive defense policy proposal.
The proposal, which he claimed will protect Taiwan with plans for an adequate defense capability for the country, will make "everybody rest at ease," he said.
A government budget bill to acquire submarines, anti-submarine aircraft and anti-missile batteries has been blocked in the legislature by the KMT and its "pan-blue alliance" ally, the People First Party (PFP).
