- Threat Reduction Agency Stands Up By Jim Garamone American Forces Press Service -- 02 October 1998 -- Defense Secretary William S. Cohen presided here Oct. 1 over the establishment of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The new agency will affect all service members in its role as DoD's focal point for force protection and counterproliferation programs. It was created by merging three other related DoD agencies.
- ESTABLISHMENT OF THE DEFENSE THREAT REDUCTION AGENCY October 1, 1998 -- Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen today established the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in a ceremony near Dulles Airport where the new defense agency will initially be headquartered. DTRA is dedicated to reducing the threat to the United States and its allies from nuclear, chemical, biological, conventional and special weapons.
